Anthriquinone Red
A great choice among PR177s. Stiffer than some other brands in consistency. Despite the name Permanent always do your own lightfastness tests with PR177. Rumor has it that all PR177s fade out over long exposure to sunlight (see Virgil Elliott’s comments on this), so depending how permanent you need it to be, we suggest you do your own LF tests and research on this pigment. However if you’re looking for PR177 and are aware of its strengths and limitations, this is one we’ve used extensively.
This color is part of Williamsburg’s Traditional Color series: “An ideal starting place for artists who are interested in exploring a more traditional range of colors.” It is also part of their Basic Color series, recommended as, “A great set for someone just starting to paint in oils or as an introduction to our line of paints.” In 2023, Golden published a vital series of tests on their colors and how they performed in mixes with various white paints.
