Quinacridone Violet / Rose (this pigment can be violet or magenta)
Surprisingly, this paint is actually made of PV19, a color usually labeled Quinacridone Rose, though this color is much redder in hue than it is magenta. This paint has an incredible versatility— when brushed out on the tube it looks more similar to the redder pigment PR209. Williamsburg notes this is actually a super-pigmented PV19, and in mixes this color behaves rather similarly to other Quinacridone Roses (also formulated with PV19). This color has a bit different tone than some other quinacridone rose colors in tints, and its semi-gloss finish is a bit more matte in comparison with similar colors. However it is clearly the strongest tinter we have ever tried with this pigment, and it has almost twice the tinting power of other brands. As mentioned, the hue and behavior in tints does differ among brands, and for cooler PV19 roses, either Old Holland Scheveningen Rose Deep or Michael Harding Quinacridone Rose would be worth trying as cooler counterparts to this color. We love this color for creating the brightest magentas at about a medium lightness as well as an alternative to PR209.
In 2023, Golden published a vital series of tests on their colors and how they performed in mixes with various white paints. More information can be found at https://justpaint.org/astm-lightfastness-testing-for-oil-paints/.
