Cadmium Yellow
Williamsburg’s Cadmium Yellow Light is an excellent cadmium yellow light. Ever so slightly cooler (one faint notch toward green) this primary-yellow colored cadmium is just a bit cooler than M Graham’s cadmium yellow light (around 6Y). Maimeri Puro’s Cadmium yellow light is just a bit cooler (yellow moving toward green) at a similar value. Rublev’s Cadmium Yellow Light is lighter and greener at a higher value. Williamsburg Cadmium Yellow Light, while not a high-flying cadmium yellow lemon, occupies a special place in the colorspace. Cadmium Yellow Light may have a lot of saturation to lend to mixes that hope to reach high chroma in the yellow-greens. Overall Williamsburg’s Cadmium Yellow Light is very high chroma color and overall an excellent choice for this note on the palette.
In 2023, Golden published a vital series of tests on their colors and how they performed in mixes with various white paints. More information can be found at https://justpaint.org/astm-lightfastness-testing-for-oil-paints/.
