Williamsburg Cadmium Orange

Williamsburg Cadmium Orange

Williamsburg Cadmium Orange mixed with a bit of white near the top. This is a good tinter and an all around gorgeous orange.

We try to think of pros and cons for the paints we review and the pros for this one are its unique hue (among cadmium oranges, it is on the yellower side of orange), its creamy consistency, and high tinting strength.

It is hard to color balance precisely but there is an interesting lightness to the masstone. While it's a yellower orange there was a note of middle orange that had a kind of redness, which is impossible to describe on a screen. When thinned it unfurled even higher chroma.

The drawbacks we could think of were only in context of what is wanted from a paint. It is not ultra-stiff for impasto, however it can hold a palette knife. Conversely if you want paint that has a dripping consistency, you might want to look elsewhere. This paint has body to it and is super spreadable. It is also richly pigmented.

This is an excellent all-purpose Cadmium orange and is one of our favorites.
