Alizarin Crimson Discontinued!

Alizarin Crimson Discontinued!

We can hardly believe that genuine Alizarin Crimson might actually be going away.

Alizarin Crimson has been a staple of 20th century palette lists, and we're shocked that painters will actually have to wave farewell to this old standby. One thing about genuine Alizarin is that despite its popularity this color isn’t very lightfast (in ASTM terms we're talking LF III).

The good news for those who love this color is that it’s not totally gone (yet) in Williamsburg. Update: Williamsburg's stock has been depleted.

Changes have been coming to Gamblin’s 1980 line though. More details can be found in our article on Limited Availability Pigments.

Update: Wallace Seymour has reserves of this color, and as of 2025 so does Natural Pigments/Rublev- Alizarin Crimson.
