A Cobalt Violet in Poppyseed Oil
So Blockx makes stunning paints just anyway, and it makes us tempted to use them all the time, but those punchy-colored paint tubes are made with Poppyseed oil. Their series 1 colors are in linseed oil, but those are mostly earths. One has to be a bit careful with poppyseed oil, and it seems to us that it's best used sparingly.
However one area where we can justify using poppyseed oil is Cobalt Violet.
We don't have any inside information on how cobalt violet specifically performs longterm or anything, it's just a color that yellows quite a bit in linseed oil.
Cobalt Violet is a bit of a special color since it's actually a lightfast violet, which is hard to find in the world of pigments. If we're using it full strength, we'd pick Blockx and save it for the final layer of the painting. Their Cobalt Violet Light (not shown) is even better, but the Deep shown here has that great low plum tone, a true warm purple.
