    Pigment Description

Isoindolinone Yellow, a warm bright reddish yellow that has gained popularity among painters. PY110 is a fabulous transparent yellow-orange that is incredibly useful in mixes. It also makes a great yellow for sap green convenience blends and is quite versatile. It is reported to have excellent lightfastness and weatherfastness.

The transparency of this yellow is a huge attraction, though it is a slow dryer in oils. Painter Kathleen Hudson noted that it can be used in mixes without adding a lightening effect to the overall mix (in contrast, cadmiums sometimes end up raising the lightness of a color blend). We have found it be outstanding for mixing greens.

    Stats

    Lightfastness

    Excellent

Consistent highest marks (all 8’s on the BWS). In watercolor we had thought this color was ASTM I, however there is one official source that lists it as ASTM III. Bruce MacEvoy also lists this as lightfast and it comes highly recommended. He wrote, "it may be the most lightfast deep yellow pigment available," so we are wondering if the lower marks are a typo. If working in watercolor, it might be worth it to do your own lightfastness testing. In the 1980s the pigments tested by the NPIRI showed solidly good marks in indoor and outdoor lightfastness testing.
