A rich, dazzling purple with a dynamic range. Dark in masstone and bright in tints. It’s a middle purple that leans slightly to the reds. We only wish this pigment had a little better lightfastness. It is gorgeous and hard to find in oils. In some ways it could be said to be related to the look of Dioxazine Violet, but it has a color all its own which leans very slightly to the red-purples though the hue moves around a bit when thinned.

Vintage Daniel Smith Quinacridone Purple, PV55. Unfortunately Daniel Smith is no long making oil paint, but they used to have some interesting pigments. PV55 may now be found in the Michael Harding line
Unfortunately, Quinacridone Purple looses a little lightfastness in in tints. Overall it tends to have 7's and 8's on the Blue Wool Scale for lightfastness.

PV55 in oil by Daniel Smith -Vintage Quinacridone Purple
It is a rarer oil paint. PV55 was made in oils by Daniel Smith until recently, as Daniel Smith ceased oil paint manufacture in exchange for water-mixable oils, the genuine oil paint became hard to find. Michael Harding recently released a PV55 Quinacridone Purple in his new line of oil paints.
