A rich, dazzling purple with a dynamic range. Dark in masstone and bright in tints. It’s a middle purple that leans slightly to the reds. We only wish this pigment had a little better lightfastness. It is gorgeous and hard to find in oils. In some ways it could be said to be related to the look of Dioxazine Violet, but it has a color all its own which leans very slightly to the red-purples though the hue moves around a bit when thinned.
Unfortunately it looses a little lightfastness in in tints. Overall 7's and 8's on the Blue Wool Scale. It was made by Daniel Smith until recently, as DS ceased oil paint manufacture in exchange for water-mixable oils.
